breakfast talk
it's a good morning
i say let's walk to
the market for breakfast
i want that yong tau foo
walk, seriously?
let's take the bus
it's too hot today
we still have choices
have you seen the news
today? Kabul fell
that's far away for you
some place called Afganistan
wait, there's an eatery
with the same name nearby
crispy prata, sweet tea
but i don't fancy curry now
the people there maybe
don't even have a choice
for breakfast or transport
and you talking about the weather
yo just throw on some
shorts & tees and slippers
come on i take that long walk
i won't be mad, promise

Magaly at Poets and Storytellers United would like us to write poetry or prose that includes dialogue. Food is one of the things that gets us talking.
Take some time and think about food waste.

There's whole stories in this exchange! And a beautiful contrast of personalities / interests too.
Thank you, Rosemary!
Those little snippets of conversation, it was just me and my family arguing where and what to have for a breakfast. 😁
Sobering reminder of the way the world keeps spinning despite tragedies big and small. Children must still be minded. Clothes must still be washed. And breakfast should certainly be had.
Choice is privilege. And some people haven't even been introduced to the latter. We take so many things for granted, don't we? Until we no longer can. And we learn to think of choices as the treasure they are.
I just checked. Not the whole city of Kabul, but a building fell to a suicide bomber. Sad.
Nice dialogue poem.
Rommy,
Thank you!
You nailed it with your comment. Whatever it is, the world must go on...
Magaly,
Thank you!
Yes, we take many things for granted, especially when we live in a modern, wealthy state. Basics like running water, electricity, healthcare. And food. So yeah, choice is privilege, and a treasure.
Over here, we are spoilt for choice for food. Maybe because of the so many cultures staying here. We take food for granted, but it is a fact that we import most of the stuff. Supply chains down and we are in trouble. That's why in my notes, there is a link about food waste. 🙂
Priscilla,
Thank you!
Is the story in the news and there are fresh violence?
The fell of Kabul in the poem was from the August of last year. 😀
I can barely believe the news some days ... our world keeps spinning, tragedies, triumphs, sadness, joy, unspeakable pain .... and yet we go on in the best ways we can manage. An awesome poem!!!
Thank you, Helen!
Whatever bad stuff the world keeps throwing at us, we must go on as best as we can.
Life does go on...however close people are, their reactions to the news differ.
Thank you, Priscilla.
Yes, each have different opinions and interests. :)
