freeze frame

freeze frame
when is a second an eternity?
and the pain a freeze frame?
the heart bleeds
razor blades
the lights of the city
hides their faces and fades
i
see this frame
over and over again
so many years
she sits here on the floor
the cold ceramic tiles
shadows cross every room
she has been brave
she is brave
but now her tears
big as pearls
rolling down
down
her quivering cheeks
of the thousands of people
at the hospital that day
she asks
WHY MUST IT HAVE TO BE ME?!
and then
there are no more shadows in the rooms
as the darkness
creeps in
and
devours us.

This is so very moving, Lee San. A moment of grief captured in time that you will carry forever.
The longest second on earth... love how you captured that frozen moment, a pivotal point I feel right at the end (or the beginning of a painful process)
Yikes! Not many times in my life does the frame freeze and time stop--but when it happens it is most always dire, a swallowing by darkness as you describe here. Even rarer is the happiness freeze frame so bright it is almost unbearable. This poem is itself a frame, one that brings history into focus. Thank you.
This very poignant, moving, sad. Your poem really causes us to FEEL the situation you created.
We both of us wrote on the darkness winning this week. Sometimes it certainly seems that way
You have done a stunning job of hanging this compelling and hauntingly rendered poem on a brilliant title. Awesome writing!
A very powerful piece.

I could answer your first two questions for myself – but you have answered them beautifully for yourself, albeit with deepest sadness ... sadness and tenderness.
Sherry,
"A moment of grief captured in time that you will carry forever."
it is.
Bjorn,
thank you.
a pivotal point. oh yes.
Susan,
thank you for the insightful comment. why do we humans seem to remember more sad moments than happy ones?
Mary,
thank you! :)
Toni,
yes, what a coincidence! but i believe there will always be light after the darkness.
Wendy,
brilliant title, thank you! i think the title sums up the poem pretty well. :)
ZQ,
Thank you!
Rosemary,
:)
thank you!
You nailed that moment of pain and the freeze frame it creates.
Oh gosh this is incredibly evocative!
Those why me questions happen to be the saddest and most unanswerable.

Thank you! :)
Gillena,
Yes, those 'why me?' questions are the saddest.
thanks for dropping by.
Oh, this one got me. I don't know why. Perhaps because I am going through a "delicate" moment myself. But your poetry touches those places we think are unreachable. Thanks.
Greetings from London.
i will always remember those tears and her words. it's heart-wrenching.
always glad to see you around. :)
