Little Boy

"The world is a very different one now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty, and all forms of human life.

-- John F. Kennedy

Little Boy

the day
it dropped off
the enola gay over a city
with a white flash instantly
frying 80,000 poor humans
the day
will be
etched in
coagulated
blood. we
have the
means to
extinct our species.
we live in fear of the
black mushroom cloud delivering
evil evil evil evil evil evil evil

"A bright light filled the plane. We turned back to look at Hiroshima. The city was hidden by that awful cloud ... boiling up, mushrooming."
-- LTC Paul Tibbets

There was indeed so much evil in the world.....and there is still today. We have much to be concerned about these days.

Oh, this is seething with both anger and anguish towards what we do to each other. It was evil indeed.
A powerful write.

I remember that announcement all those years ago as a child. The effect it had was horrendous and horrible that thousands of innocent people were killed because there was no other way of ending that far eastern war. I still can't accept that it was right.

Gillena,

the choice is more up to the nuclear-armed countries. we hope they choose love as the answer.

Anmol,

yes, both anger and anguish. :(

Robin, i can understand your abhorrence to the use of the bombs. after all, most of the victims were civilians. i think i can't accept it too, but what the Japanese army did to the occupied lands was very repugnant and cruel too. it has been thought that the battles for Okinawa, with heavy losses of life on both sides, prompted the U.S. to use the bombs.

Let's pray those 2 are the last ones use in war.

Exactly so! 'What a powerful image, 'etched in coagulated blood', and all too aptly horrifying. Cannot but agree with your last line. And there are various ways of extincting / extinguishing ourselves....

thank you, Rosemary.
so you counted how many times the word appeared in the last line?
certainly there is more than one way of extincting/extinguishing ourselves. humankind is quite creative/innovative for the wrong reasons..
