Tampines Ave 2, 11.35 p.m.
in the rain
the city walls
shuddered
with the sudden cold
the last
of the late night
stragglers
huddled at bus shelters
caught out
in the storm that
hammered
the sidewalks the trees
and jerky
vehicle headlights
skidded off
the glassy wet asphalt
on store fronts
limp banner ads
fluttered
in total surrender
as traffic lights
blinking angrily
protesting
their cyclops eyes mad
at the rain
and the wind's
brazen
intent to claim the night.

The prompt at Poets and Storytellers United this week is to write something "inspired by the idea of storms, literal or metaphorical". How convenient to have one sitting in my hard disk. :)

I remember city nights like that! Even tried to capture some of their bleakness and threat in poetry, but I think not so well as this. (The rural town where I am now doesn't have quite the same desolate feeling, even in harsh weather.)
I was relating this poem from experience. I was still working then, and the storm that night was sudden and savage. Not a good time to be outside. It was probably a sumatra squall
I trace an unsaid story of a city , rain and wind, nice write
jossina, thank you! :)
You have captured that bleak awful weather. Well done !
You brought to living color ... with sound ... the feel of night rains in the city! Bravo! This is a great poem.
Rallentanda,
Thank you!
Just writing from experience. :)
Helen,
Thank you!
Yes, the sounds of a storm. :)
I could visualize the scene through your poem.
Thank you, vanderloost! :)
I felt like I was there, and have been many times in the past. Great poem!
I love the photo as well.
Thank you, Sara.
The photo was taken from a bus I was travelling in, during a storm. Glad to be in the bus. :)
