instant poetry

This poem was inspired by an idea by DeadPoet, one of my forum friends. He calls his off-the-cuff, spur-of-the-moment short works "instant poems".

Opening a cup of instant noodles and waiting for it to cook, I was going through the newspapers when the idea of an "instant poem" came to my mind, and so here is this slightly unappetizing serving. The news items came from the actual headlines of a newspaper that day.

It's pretty old news, I know. I promise to write something better when my muse returns. :)

in between, the news

open packet, pour in hot water, wait 3 minutes.

in the meantime, there was the usual bleak news from Iraq, female hostage pleads for her life, Feb 1 2006, damn, dropped cigarette ash on floor, splattered like a dead moth, cowboy gay love story won 8 Oscar nominations. dad beats up mum what can a child do? homeless man living under flyover bridge for past six months.

ah, excuse me, my noodle's ready.

wow, this is almost instant response! i just came back from Pat's site and saw your comment. :)

just curious, are instant noodles available over your side? it's convenient when you are hungry in the middle of the night or just plain lazy to cook. :0

Well, Almost everything is available here. We certainly do not live on trees and ride elephants. I mean, no longer!

This is cool! The free flow of words is a style used in poetry that I have seen before. It's cool and I want to try it now. Your ending is perfect.

Gel,
glad you like the style here. :) i wrote this as if in little bite sizes, to reflect on the "instant" and fast-paced world we lived in.

and yes, i must be still living in a cave, haha! :D
except that i still find it hard to see you guys eating instant noodles. it's more like an Asian thing. :)
