a perfect day

"I lit another cigarette and wondered distantly how I would get through the day. It was a problem demanding some ingenuity.”
Iris Murdoch, A Severed Head

a perfect day

i am looking
at the window grills
the clothes hangers
                 hanging there
on the dusty metal
like big question marks.
and outside,
the sanitation workers
are banging the trash bins
           and dumpsters
around the dump truck
they are shouting in a
           rapid-fire language
like directing fire in a war.
i do not understand
i feel a migraine coming
i could need a nap
i lay on the bed
looking at the ceiling
               the ceiling looks
               back at me
               and smirks.

Everything is alive with animation. I love the hangers as question marks.

You have captured that down depressing feeling we experience on occasion...garbage trucks and question mark coat hangers are a nice touch. Keep some orange juice combined with lemon barley water ice blocks in the freezer. Very good for this type of situation

I love the ending. It's both fun and eerie. As if inviting me to birth a story out of that smirk.

What a day. What a mangy, miserable day. Like Rosemary, it makes me want to wipe that smirk to kingdom come (wherever that is).
