quarrel

now I just want to hear her voice...

ink and water colour sketch by dsnake1

quarrel

like a rush
of arctic wind
that scutters over
a winter pond
dusting hoarfrost on reeds,
we sat, stiff, cold
as strangers

no words, no words pass between us today.
no words, no words she said.

Oh how I enjoy your sketches ... such talent! The sparseness of this poem resonates deeply.

I enjoy your sketches too.

And yes, this poem goes straight to the heart. The metaphor is vivid; then the last two, literal, lines so bleak.

It's a sinking feeling. Sometimes I go under.

Beverly,

Thank you! :)

Rosemary,

Thank you! I like the sketch too.
This is an old poem, couldn't remember when it was written. I think the last two lines added a lot of weight to the poem.

Colleen,

Thank you!
A sinking feeling it is.

I remember the bleakness of the quiet after some quarrels, and how much I yearned for the possibility of noise again.

This is so precious, a captured moment. It feels like a haiku. A glimpse into a moment that holds so many untold stories.

I liked how the coldness of the weather matches the coldness of the relationship. Also, the sketch is lovely.

I imagine two people who were once friends and now they are cold to each other.

Sadly, I've lived this
