a good day but still cranky

“I grabbed a pile of dust, and holding it up, foolishly asked for as many birthdays as the grains of dust, I forgot to ask that they be years of youth.”

Ovid, Metamorphoses

a good day but still cranky

trust that the sun will rise
that time is on my mind
how do you define a second then
when it is gone faster than my heartbeat?

trust that my head will clear
rages must wait another day
i am trying to type poems on the keyboard
and the bowl of noodles awaits.

I had a good birthday recently. The kid brought me out for food, even bought me a toy. I reminded myself to be kind that day, be patient, do not pick fights with people. I even managed to write some poetry. This poem.

You made me think that a second is like one heartbeat. Time lives but goes by fast.

An intriguing poem. Makes me want to know "the rest of the story".

Very nice, also your comment about having to remind yourself to be kind. Sometimes it doesn't come naturally, and that's okay.

Sometimes I let the rages fuel my writing. And sometimes, that doesn't turn out half bad.

Colleen,

Thank you, Colleen.
Sometimes, we do not think much about time, it's always there, and we give it some thought only because of a birthday, a deadline, or news of an illness.

Beverly,

Thank you!
"the rest of the story"? not much, in my now mundane life. Which is also a good thing. :)

Lisa,

Thank you!
No, it doesn't come naturally to me. That's why I am doing volunteer work with the Red Cross befriending elderly people. :)

Rommy,

Rages can sometimes help one write some stunning poetry. Most of the time, just rants, but sometimes great gems. :)

Hard to imagine you with a cranky persona, inclined to pick fights! Ha, we sensitive poetic types are still just human, eh?

Cressida,

Thank you!
Yes, it was a good day. If there are candles on the birthday cake, there will be a big bunch there. :)
I am staying pretty calm nowadays. Those stressed-out days are almost over.

Rosemary,

ha, I am a much more calmer person since I retired. I intend to keep it that way. Do the stuff i like, write, read, video games, cycling, museums.
Museums. A couple of days back I visited an art museum with a friend and took a bunch of photos. Maybe a series of short poems is coming up. :)

I like how you trust the day to come and trust in yourself to give the day your best.
The noodles are making me hungry :)

Do it while you can, D.S. We travelled a lot when we first retired, all 50 states and at least 76 countries. Now after 22, Mrs. Jim, and 20, me, I'm afraid some countries wouldn't let me drive, too old. Even 70 in some countries, Ireland for one. And I'm 18 years past that now. We mostly cruise now, almost 30 times.
One good thing, my second are coming slower even though my heart is speeding up, 70's now instead of 50 or lower. My bowl of noodles tonight was the cup they came in plus three frozen meatballs and 1/3 cup of frozen peas and a cup of water. So I hope the BIRTHDAY was happy all the way and I wish you many more.

Thank you, Jim.

Wow, travelled to all 50 states and at least 76 countries! That's a lot of travelling. I have been to much less, but mostly enjoyed the trips. Retirement gives us the time to do things, like travelling, that we can't do when working.

I think I haven't try your type of cup noodles with meatballs. What we have here are pretty basic, just noodles and little bits of vegetables or freeze-dried neat. For us Cantonese, there's a tradition of eating noodles on your birthday for luck and longevity.

It was a good birthday. Thanks again for the kind wishes. :)

Trusting that all will be well is often hard to swallow. I think it's nice to remember that, so that after the swallowing we can remind ourselves just how awesome we've been to have trusted.

Happiest (belated) Birthday!

Yvonne,

oh yes, we must be careful what we wish for.
Happy Holidays too! :)

Magaly,

well, trusting can be a hit-and-run affair, but sometimes we have to start somewhere. It will be awesome if it turns out right. :)
Thank you for the birthday greetings!
