I is for Insects

I is for Bugs
I is for bugs
In that
They are
Icky
Irksome
Irrelevant
But Impossible to Ignore.
They bite you, suck you
Fly before your eyes
And make you
Itch
Irritated
Ill-tempered.
Worse, they Insult your Intelligence.
You find it
Incredible
Incredulous
Implausible
That they were here
Hundreds of millions of years
Before you, Ignoramus!
I is for Insects.

**********
There are, at present, some 4,600 species of cockroaches, 3,500 species of mosquitos, and 120,000 species of flies. I am only talking about the 'pests'. There are still beetles (oh yes, a big group), grasshoppers, butterflies, moths, ants, and bees. And a lot more. They are gonna outlast us anytime. π¦ π
Hey guys, feel free to add any more "I"s in the comments. π

I don't like insects (because they like me too well) β and I love your poem with all its brilliant and so apt I-words.
i guess most people don't like insects (except for entomologists). π
My vote is definitely for irksome (flies and mosquitoes have re-zoned the patio a people-free area); although...also intriguing because I'm a fan of bee pics & trying to lure giant moths into the yard.
I love that "I" is for bugs and that insects don't bug me at all. Maybe I like how incredibly creepy they are, and that some can be so powerful even when tichy. But yes, I get it... some can irritate the skin and the mood, but a balanced world needs its bugs.
I like insects, especially June Bugs, though it's too bad that it takes so many of them to make a decent meal...
Love all the I's. We have been combating a couple of cockroaches without calling pest control because of the pandemic. And it is enough to say, they irk me! But, like you pointed out, they are definitely gonna outlive us.
This is immensely clever and earned a couple of re-reads. I loved it.
I really like this. Very clever and funny!
Irksome they may be but without insects I don't fancy our chances of surviving for long as they are indispensble.
You said it all Cheong Lee san! Bravo. Nice write.
Muchπlove
Chrissa,
the world will be in deep trouble if there are no more bees. :(
Magaly,
true, a balanced world needs its bugs. but not mosquitos, especially the aedes aegypti species. after fending off a second wave of covid, we are facing an outbreak of dengue.
Ron,
great! I have just learned that june bugs are a good source of proteins and calcium. :)
Namratha,
oh yes, they will definitely outlive us. :D
Beverly,
thank you! :)
Jenna,
thank you! :)
Robin,
yes, they are indeed Indispensible.
Gillena,
Thank you! :)
Smiles....cool. Nice to see you again.
Thank you, Ayala!
nice to see you around too. :)
A literal Infestation of insect fun!
Thank you, Colleen! π
very different topic...fun to read
Ashok, thank you!
glad to see you. :)
I imitated C.S. Lewis's way to cope with insects: learning as much about them as possible. I is for Income from guest posts at insect sites...and I especially liked learning that far from wanting to attack me, most wasps and all dragonflies want to protect me from nuisance insects. But I still chortled at this poem.
Priscilla, thanks for the visit!
I is for Income! i like that! :)
insects have a role in this ecosystem called Earth, pollination being one. and butterflies, dragonflies, scarab beetles wow us with their colours.
