urban snapshots in monochrome : smoke

old lady at bus stop
glared hard at me
at first whiffs
          of tobacco smoke
he had flouted the law

but madam it was
the babe behind me
who was lighting up.

Notes : It is an offence to smoke tobacco at public bus stops in my country. Inhaling the exhaust fumes from passing vehicles is ok. The image is a pencil sketching on art paper, scanned and resized.

kekeke... this is fun... just that i thought if you included the part abt breathing exhaust fumes is ok vs breathing second hand smoke is not in the poem, the irony would be even more poignant and fun... keke... i love irony... keke

made me smile
me - i'd have taken the blame
babe would have been so grateful she'd have fallen into my arms
and we'd have run off into the sunset
actually i don't think i could run with a babe in my arms
the way my back's been lately
and the wife's expecting me
and .....
forget it - send her to jail :)

liked the pic too
cheers

kittyn,
yeah, this really happened to me. i intended this piece to be ironic, wanted to put in the exhaust fumes vs secondhand smoke part, but decided to stick to the shape of the earlier poem. glad you find it fun. :)

floots,
glad it made your imagination run wild. you are so humorous. cheers!:)

yeah funny isn't it? They both can give you cancer.

The no-smoking at busstops is not very strictly enforced.

I like this piece - the old lady reveals her thoughts by glaring at you -- she assumes naturally that it must be a man who lit up. Apparently, you fit the stereotype she's got in her mind. Actually these days, it is rather common to see young women light up in public places.

think the rule was abit stupid... so i can smoke just a step OUTside of the busstop? or do i have to control the wind to ensure the smoke doesn't get carried INto the nose of the other ppl? *shake head*

okie okie i'm biased... :P
