the sky was once blue.

Here's my poem for the environment.

It's the only Earth we have.

Rajah Brooke's Birdwing

the sky was once blue

if the haze can clear
and the dust has settled
would we still remember
that the sky
was once blue
that clouds roll across
like pieces of cotton wool

that the wind carry
the scent of flowers
from green fields of grass
the birdwings flutter
in iridescent flight
around majestic trees
in golden sunlight

when we once hold
a red starfish in our hands
or hear how wide the sea
in a cowrie shell
as the surf slams on land
the salty spray like diamonds
in our hair.

if the haze can clear
and the dust has settled.
