the problem is money
photo of a wall mural by dsnake1
the problem is money
you think sleeping on it
it will go away?
what are the chances of
one striking the lottery?
and then losing it
the next day.
or shall we wait
like withered flowers
in a vase?
that's very unlike you
bringing it up
a couple of parang hacks
will do the trick?
come on, let's get a beer
while we are still breathing
how long can you live
staying in cheap dorms?
the problem is money
yeah
and that freighter to taiwan
too
one day a lady in red
will sell you out
for some coins
when you are having
your morning coffee.

Does this looks like a character out of a TV show? No, it is partly based on some real life gunmen and gangsters.
The problem is no one plays the difficulty.

from “Three Problems” by Noah Eli Gordon
I was inspired by the lines from the above poem. This is a prompt from the Bibliomancy Oracle. It can work in criminal ways.

A most fascinating post, whatever characters it's based on. Intriguing! I also love the Noah Eli Gordon post you cite.
Is it over when the lady in red sings?
Yes, the problem usually is money!
Helen,
Thank you!
Ah, the vibes! :)
Gillena,
Thank you.
In the 70's and earlier, it was a wild west (east?) here. :)
Rosemary,
Thank you!
About that Noah Eli Gordon poem, that's an interesting way to write a poem. :)
Colleen,
Thank you!
Yes, it's over when she sings. :)
The 'lady in red' tag refers to someone who betrays another person for monetary or personal gain. It originates from the woman who betrayed John Dillinger to the FBI.
Priscilla,
Thank you!
It usually is, isn't it?
You nailed the film noir vibe!
Film noir!
Thank you, Rommy. :)
The visuals are clear and the implications dark. I so enjoyed the noir cinematic flair of this poem.
Thank you, Penelope!
Glad that you enjoyed the poem. :)
The mural is beautiful and the poem is visually evocative.
Well written
magiceye,
Thank you.
yes, the mural is quirky, but beautiful. It spans the entire wall of a pub/bar in the city core.
ashok,
Thank you! Glad to see you. :)
I like the voice in this poem.
Thank you, Sara! :)
I really like "or shall we wait like withered flowers in a vase?" Interesting tidbit about the "lady in red" and it is usually all about the money, right?
Debi,
thank you.
i thought the meaning of 'lady in red' should be quite well known in American folklore. And yes, it's usually all about the money. :)
The last few lines did made me think of The Sopranos. But as we well know, fiction and reality always dance together... fighting over which can be more ruthless.
Thank you, Magaly!
I didn't watch The Sopranos, i think it was in a time slot when family members are watching other soap operas. And yes, as the saying goes, truth can be stranger than fiction. :)
Ooh, I really like this one! The second person, the questions, the narrator voice, the imagery - so effective!
JYP, Thank you! I think the second person here adds more urgency to the poem. :)
