candles

some things, we don't forget.

colour pencil sketch by dsnake1

candles

we lit candles
on birthdays

drank wine
kissed lips

night walks
star maps

now i bring wine
to your altar

trying to smile
wiping tears

telling you
how i am coping

as i light candles
on your anniversaries

That's beautiful. There's comfort in talking to our lost loved ones, whether we believe they hear us or not.

This is a beautiful tribute. The short lines are really effective, because live is short.

You're such a master of restraint! These simple words, full of so much unstated but fully conveyed emotion, made my eyes damp.

glad you like the sketch. πŸ˜€

Rosemary,

thank you for the kind words!
i found an old haiku in the hard-drive during the lockdown, understood what i wrote that for, and recently revised it, and made a sketch for it as well from an old photo. πŸ˜„

I feel this one all the way to my bones. I understand (because I have lived it, too) every emotion inked into your poem. Remembrance can be perfectly bittersweet.

To light a candle - to have no bitterness - that is a virtue worth striving for.
