for that bowl of rice

Going through my old, yellowed journals, I found this little piece of writing. I was surprised, that even 15 years ago, I could occasionally come out with some forceful words. I think it was about some frustrations boiling over. I just did a bit of editing, and here it is.

for that bowl of rice

maybe
it was the sum
of all the little
tiring journeys
adding up
or the
proverbial straw

i do not really
mean to
raise my voice

i smile
but
who knows the lead in my heart
i trudge miles
for that bowl of rice
and
not for me alone.

cool.

The smile implied a supressed anger just leaked a little, to me anyhow...

Cool, good stuff.

Life is tough. I think the frustration comes through; it is never just about one thing that causes a person to snap.

This invoked a powerful image for me. We don't always strive to survive for ourselves alone.

this touched me. love the raw imagery of proverbial straws and almost frustration at journeys of survival one is sometimes forced to take, not just for self but because of someone else. a powerful write effectively moving readers by its brevity and clarity. i do believe this going to be my favorite from your works.

rax,
thank you.

the other day when i came across it in my old journals, i told myself, wow, was i that bitter and frustrated that day? the heavy scrawl of the penciled words on paper indicated that it must be.

so glad that you like this poem. :)

Frustration accompanying adult responsiblity weighs mighty heavily on one's shoulders. Expressed well. Especially admire figurative use of "I trudge miles for that bowl of rice."
