Rain&Night

I wanted to post this a couple of days back, but have been working late. It's something about rain.
I wrote this piece some time back, and with some slight revisions, here it is :

Rain&Night

lightning rolled lazily across the night sky
       like bad fluoresence
the sky , blushing palely then,
meets this sudden outburst of light
like startled lovers
       & blushes again

the rain, beating its sleep song on apartment blocks,
       lashes on plastic awnings
grime caked walls, as
a bamboo of clothes fluttered on one high floor
forlorn , defeated,

down below on the playground
       devoid of children,
no sounds of taunts, laughter
but the drum roll of thunder
the metal slides, the ladders, the rusted monkey rails,
like exposed fossilised bones of beasts long gone,
       thrusting out of rock.

a wet mongrel , growling
       lurches across this wastescape
its howl, a puny protest
against the thunder
that rocked across the sullen night sky...

Thanks for asking about the forestry thing. Yeah it was organized by my highschool. Its a shame you dont have many forests around.

That last image of the mongrel wet in the rain really stays in the mind. It's a bit scary if one were to meet something like that when coming home on a stormy night.

liz, glad that the image of the dog is so strong, and it will be scary to bump into it on a stormy night! But i guess its main thought is to find a dry place to lie down.

These were the actual scenes i saw from the window of a rental flat i once stayed in.
