one busy day at a contemporary art museum

reminds one of the emperor's new clothes...

colour pencil sketch by dsnake1

one busy day at a contemporary art museum

the crowds have come to gawk and ogle.
they are talking of technique and colors.
he came too but his brows knit into a frown.
why, they have hung the picture upside down.

I love it! My kids were homeschooled, and we studied an artist a month. One was Mondrian, and they did their own styled after his with construction paper strips and shapes.
Your poem reminds me of an Arthur (the aardvark, a kids' show on PBS) where Binky notices a painting is hung wrong, but no one believes him, because he's the "stupid" kid. Finally the artist confirmed it.

This is perfect, from intro to poem to final quote, just perfect. I laughed so loud, my husband came to check that all was well. Then I showed him, and he began to laugh. Don't you just love it when fun poetry gets contagious?

Lisa,

it's great that your children studied an artist a month. i wished i could have gone on to study art when i was younger, but such are the pressures of a working world.
i was fascinated by Mondrian's shapes and his use of primary colors.
i have not seen that kids' show, but it certainly reminds you of this poem. πŸ˜€

colleen,

haha! 😁

Magaly,

so it is a contagious poem? 😁
i have to slap a warning label on it.

They have indeed hung it upsidedown. It is always wise as an artist to check before the exhibition opens!

Robin,

😁

the artist thinks that this is the gallery's job.

I feel like that about most, so-called, modern art.
Does it matter which way it's hung?!

I think it does. We have to respect the artist and his/her art.
