a year in a minute

What event in 2013 leaves a lasting impression in your mind?

a year in a minute

To me there is one image that defines the year. Floods.

Not the troubles in Syria or other ongoing wars but the floods that swept so many countries, even in my own backyard. You see, I was out for lunch one sunny noon and then the rains just poured out of nowhere, no warning.

I was fortunate, I was only inconvenienced, nothing compared to the scenes of fast currents sweeping away hopes, mudslides, grieving families elsewhere. Are we paying the debts for this rape of the earth? Or is this to be expected in the year of the Water Snake?

Floods ... I wonder if the earth is trying to cleanse and renew? Lovely message in your poem. We must be kind to the earth. Nurture it and it will nurture us back. Thank you for your kind comment, and Happy New Year to you :)

I believe we are paying the price of our rape of the earth. Well written, my friend.

Seems like the year of 100 words is soon coming to a close. Any thoughts on the experience? -and- What's next?
As for floods, water doesn't seem to be the only medium that has flooded the world of late. Fear, economic depression, media hype, mediocrity, etc comes to mind.

Loredana,

perhaps it's trying to cleanse and renew. or maybe it's nature's way of fighting back.

a happy new year to you too! :)

Gillena,

thank you! i loved your comment so much! :)

grapeling,

what happened? hope the new year will be much kinder. :)

Sherry,

thank you!
the quest for resources is relentless.

Mary,

thank you! it's certainly not easy to think of answers, but i guess it's Nature's way of giving a warning.

a happy new year to you too! :)

Sumana,

thanks! these are the all too common scenes we see on the TV and on the net lately. :(

Stormcat,

yeah, the year of 100 words is coming to a close. :)
let's hope the new year will be much better. i was thinking of floods because of the unusual amount of rain we were getting over here, and reports of floods in locations that were never, or seldom flooded before. though bad stuff dominated the news, there are still many stories of kindness, charity and achievements.

floods, natural disasters, they shape our world and they are indiscriminate....they take for whoever is in their path...and those that it misses will never truly understand the blessing in that....it took out my grammas house years ago....
